Pushing both hands through his hair, he stopped beside a window and stared out. Then he pivoted. "I need your help, Seraph. And your utter discretion."
Verchiel blinked. Nodded.
"The Power who was cast out - I need to find him."
"Aramael?" She frowned. "What for?"
"The Appointed."
"The - " Verchiel stopped as she realized his intent. She shook her head. "No. You cannot - we cannot. Mika'el, think of the risk - "
"I am thinking of the risk," he said, "and there is more at stake than you know. Especially now that I am aware of the Nephilim."
"But there's still a chance that Seth might choose in our favor -" She broke off again, working through a maze of impossibilities. If Seth did choose Heaven's favor, Lucifer would simply turn his wrath on the angels and loose the Nephilim against the mortal world in his stead. If Seth chose Hell's path, the angels would engage the Fallen in an attempt to draw Lucifer's forces away from his murderous campaign on Earth - and the Nephilim would still move against humankind. And if Seth died - she closed her eyes. No matter how she looked at this, each and every path ended in the war they had sought, long and hard, to avoid.
"We can't win, can we?" she asked.
"Not the way we'd hoped, no. But we can try to mitigate the damage."
"By forcing Lucifer's hand? The moment Seth is dead, there will be nothing to stop the Light-Bearer from engaging us in immediate war."
"Except a Nephilim army."
The cold sickness rose again in Verchiel's belly. "He grows their numbers."
"And the longer we put off war, the greater those numbers will become."
"You don't plan to wait for him to strike the first blow."
"I do not."
"The One won't allow it."
"The decision is mine."
"But if Lucifer finds out we've assassinated his son, we forfeit the agreement. What then?"
Mika'el looked over his shoulder. Emerald eyes blazed from a face that might have been carved from granite, it had gone so still. So hard. "Then," said Heaven's greatest warrior, "we face consequences none of us ever imagined. The Power's whereabouts, Seraph. Now."

Sins of the Son is the second novel in this new Grigori Legacy series. Ms. Poitevin delivers another riveting novel in this world of angels and humans. As the world seems to charge recklessly towards Armageddon – Lucifer’s desire – there are those working relentlessly to prevent it…even if it means going behind the Creator’s back.
The previous novel, Sins of the Angels, concentrated on setting up the mythology and the plight of humans and angels. In this novel, we truly get into the politics of the Creator and of the Fallen Angels, led by Lucifer. We love the continuing theme of free will that permeates this world in so many ways. There is not just a political commentary you see but also one on the nature of humanity. This series can be read on several different levels, which lends itself well to a book club. It will spawn much discussion beyond religious beliefs and views.
Alex is an engaging main character. Although “mostly” human and therefore considered weak, she rises to the occasion. She is not a religious woman, but she does believe in right and wrong. She strives to help her fellow man to the best of her ability, even if it means a terrible sacrifice. It is easy to be drawn to her and Ms. Poitevin does an excellent job in allowing the reader to be able to walk in Alex’s shoes. Although Alex and Aramael are very different, they have much in common. With Seth thrown between them, they have an explosive and yet delicate struggle between them. The question before them not only is blurred, but there is no certainty in any of the answers.
The question of soulmates and free will is a fascinating element that is well woven through the Sins of the Son. Although there are quite of few twists and turns, it is almost as if, at times, free will isn’t as “free” as it seems. Perhaps free will only appears that way and some things are destined to be.
Without giving anything away in this dynamic novel, the characters and world building are seamless and engaging. It is surprising how quickly you can read the novel. Gikany and Una were glued to the pages only to find a very unexpected ending that left us with more questions and anxious for the next book. If you haven’t picked up the Grigory Legacy yet, do so. You won’t regret it.

Gikany and Una jumped at the chance to read something a little different in the urban fantasy realm. Sins of the Angels, the first book in the new Grigori Legacy, is definitely that. This new world, mostly based in Christian angel mythology, is dark, fresh and intriguing.
Ms. Poitevin has crafted an enthralling world full of intrigue, plot twists and engaging characters. We found this story to be a quick read simply because it is difficult to put down. It is easy to step into this alternate reality because it can so easily exist within one’s own personal beliefs. Her world-building was seamless and did not slow down the story in any way. It was woven in with the plot, which we must say, twisted and turned right up until the end. We didn’t expect the ending and in fact, Una was quite surprised by the way things are left.
We found ourselves completely draw into the plight of Alex and Aramael. The struggle they face and the complete hopelessness of their fates seems to grow the more they are together. Even with the way the story concludes…it isn’t over. So much is left and we just cannot wait to find out what is next. Hopefully we will find out what the future holds for Alex and Aramael.
Another completely enthralling character is Seth, the Appointed. Even though we don’t quite understand his role, we are sure that it will become clear in the next book, Sins of the Son due out in spring of 2012. He seems to be outside the hierarchy that Ms. Poitevin has created (you can familiarize yourself with it on her website). Gikany and Una cannot wait to find out exactly what his role is.
This is a new and exciting series and we fully recommend that you take a chance and read it. Go out and get a copy of Sins of the Angels. If you would like a glimpse of it first, keep an eye on those Sunday Snippets, you’ll be seeing one from this novel soon.
