AAD Author Spotlight: Teresa D’Amario
Hello Readers! Today I bring you paranormal romance author, Teresa D’Amario. Born in Atlanta, the daughter of an Army Soldier during the early stages of the Viet Nam war, she spent her childhood traveling from state to state, finally ending up overseas in Germany where she graduated high school six months early.
Her writing career however began as a young Airman in the Air Force, writing monthly articles for the weekly base paper. The articles ranged from climatological data to full centerfold articles on the destructive forces of hurricanes. As she increased in rank, her writing changed to more technological instruction, including such works as WSR-88D Doppler Radar Data Interpretation Guide for North Carolina Stations and Station Operating Procedures.
But her early writing wasn’t limited only to the technological side. She’s written multiple dog training and behavior articles for canine websites such as Sonora Canine Freestyle and also the Ask Blackjack column, a fun training column in the voice of her labrador retriever, then a young pup.
She is married to a wonderful man named Doug, who is also retired Air Force, and they just celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary. They live in North Carolina with their two dogs.
Teresa is a featured author attending Author’s After Dark in New Orleans. For more information about AAD2012, click HERE.
Also, keep reading to learn more about Teresa’s newest release, Lone Wolf (Book #2 in her Maxey Wizard Series).
Please help me welcome Teresa to That’s What I’m Talking About.
Teresa: Hey Jen! I’m thrilled to be back here. I love your blog. Some great reviews and just a lot of fun.
Twimom: Ah, thank you so much! Just so you all know, I adore Teresa and I am a big fan of her work. And... she’s going to be my roomie at AADNOLA!
First... let’s talk about Maxey Wizards! I really like this series a lot! Can you tell us more about the series?
Teresa: YAY, and I can’t WAIT until we get to meet in person. Ok, Maxey Wizards is a 5 book series of 5 Maxey siblings – 4 boys and one girl, and what happens when their relatively normal world of wizarding magick is invaded by shapeshifters. The first two, Tigress by the Tail, and Lone Wolf are both out already. The books are typically higher action, with a lot of danger and fighting involved. And of course, some seriously hot scenes.
Twimom: I recently read on your blog that you are working on the third installment of the Maxey Wizard series. *squee* What’s up next for the Maxey siblings?
Teresa: Oh the next one, Cougar’s Fate, is all about Jared, and what happens when he wakes to find himself trapped with a starving cougar. Only thing is, she’s not your average cougar. She’s a GSA Assassin, trained since childhood to kill in every way possible without remorse.
Twimom: Yea! I can’t wait!! You also have a wonderful shifter series: True Mates. Will you share a bit about this series as well?
Teresa: True Mates holds a special place in my heart because they are my first series. It tells the tale of shifters who meet their mates, but unlike the Maxey wizard series, it’s all about the pack. Or the family. This series takes us into the hearts and minds of the true wolfpack and how they operate. Or, the shifter pack, at least.
Twimom: Do you have any other series or genre books that you are working on? Can you share?
Teresa: Well, I’m trying to work on a new futuristic book, but that’s going to take a while. It’s very different from anything you’ve seen from me to date, set about 100 years into the future, and is more of a political revolt type thing. The characters are typically human, but have begun evolving some special talents as well.
Twimom: Let’s talk about Authors After Dark 2012. Why AAD? What are you looking forward to most at AAD? What are you looking forward to most in NOLA?
Teresa: It’s funny, but my first thought about AAD is how exciting it will be to meet all the people I tweet and chat with. As an author and reader of all things paranormal, we tend to meet others with our same likes and dislikes, and it’s going to be so awesome to meet everyone in person!
Twimom: *nods head in agreement* I always like to ask authors about their reading habits... What types of books do you enjoy reading? What was your favorite read in 2011 or so far in 2012?
Teresa: Wow, that’s difficult, isn’t it? I always say I don’t have a favorite, because I love all books equally. I can tell you I read JR Ward’s newest, and Tohr’s book left me teared up for two straight hours of reading. It’s a long book, so it took me about 10 hrs to read (yes, I read very fast). I can’t say I adored the first half of the book, but the last half gave me everything I love in a book, and the emotional punch it packs left it in my mind for a very long time.
Twimom: What upcoming 2012 releases are you most excited to read?
Teresa: Another tough one. Right now I have about 15 books in my to be read list in Kindle. Books I’ve already bought and haven’t had a chance to read. I’m especially looking forward to Tempted by Rebecca Zanetti which is already waiting for me, and I’m waiting with bated breath for Lynsay Sand’s newest vampire book (I do love those). But there are so many awesome books to choose from.
Twimom: Teresa, once again thank you so much for taking the time to tell my readers a little bit about yourself and your writing. It was wonderful chatting with you. I look forward to hanging out with you in New Orleans!
Teresa: And I you. I’m coming with some very fun clothes for the trip. Let’s put it this way, everyone is going to be able to find me at this conference. And if you’re coming, don’t forget to take a look at the baskets to bid on – Because I’m giving away a free kindle with mine!

About the book:
A small town veterinarian has a big time problem. She's not human.
Plagued as a child with an extra-sensitive sense of smell, strength, and eyesight, Anna Callaway always thought she was special. But she didn't understand how special until she met Kieran Hunter.
He insists they are True Mates, but he's not human either. He's wolven.
Kieran is a protector of his race. No longer the Alpha of his pack, he spends his time searching out and punishing any who may reveal their race to humans. While patrolling, he finds two wolven about to kidnap Anna. He battles to protect her, but is surprised to find himself drawn to her in a way he never expected.
The couple must learn to deal with their differences before they can address their similarities. But when three men kidnap Anna, she must decide if she is to embrace the wolven way of life, or return to her quiet existence. And whether to abandon the man who claims her as his True Mate.

Sunday Snippets #36
She Wolf by Teresa D’Amario
Paperback Release Date: November 30, 2010
Anna opened her eyes and found herself staring into the darkest blue eyes she’d ever seen. Kieran.
“Let me go. Don’t touch me,” she shrieked. Pushing away from the ground with her hands, she skittered backward to escape him. He didn’t follow, so she stopped after a few feet.
“I won’t hurt you. Let me take you to your car.”
She knew that tone. She used it herself when working with abused animals. Calm control, intended to ease fears and establish trust.
“You....” The word faded into a wince, and she wrapped her arms across her bruised ribcage. “You aren’t human.”
He shook his head and took a step closer. Her nostrils flared, scenting him. Buried beneath the calm strength he presented lurked something darker, hungrier. Lust. It burned brightly, calling to her. And to her surprise, her body responded. Heat coursed through her veins, constricting her lungs. She shook her head, struggling to clear it.
“What are you?”
He shrugged. “My name is Kieran. And I’m here to help. Let me get you to your car.”
Anna stared at the hand he held out. She drew his scent into her lungs. Exotic and tantalizing. Her pulse slowed, and her fear seeped away, absorbed by the concrete she sat upon. Only confusion remained.
Someone must have slipped something into her drink. It was the only answer that made sense. But boy, whatever it was, it packed a punch. Surreal images flooded her mind, and she shoved them away. They weren’t real.
Anna took a deep breath and let it out, slowing the renewed pounding of her heart. Hesitantly, she reached for the extended hand.
Their skin touched, and electricity zinged between them, right through her fingertips straight to her heart. She yanked her hand back, clutching it in her other palm. His eyes widened, but his mouth curved in the hint of a smile. Huh. He seemed as surprised as she.
But he didn’t retreat. His palm remained out, waiting. Uncertain, she placed her hand in his. Again, the current ran through her body, but she didn’t pull away. Nerve endings that before lay dormant sizzled to life, and her skin suddenly craved his touch, his heat. Anna gasped and struggled to hide her building desire as the man helped her up.
“Who are you?” she whispered.
“A friend.” His voice was deep, almost a growl. She liked that, the low, masculine tone. His wide shoulders blocked her view, and she moved to look around him. He simply moved with her, blocking the body she knew had to lay behind him.
“Are you going to kill me now?” she asked. Why did she ask that? Nothing she’d seen could be real. All figments of a drug-induced imagination, which meant there was no need to kill her.
He grimaced. “No, I am not going to kill you. I’m going to keep you safe.”
She stared into his eyes. The red battle-lust was gone. Was that what it would be called? Or was it bloodlust? His eyes were so dark, almost black. Deep, beautiful blue irises. By the size of his dilated pupils, Anna wouldn’t be surprised to find he could see in the dark. She blinked and struggled to push her rising desire behind a shield of professionalism.
“I think I believe you.”
“You think?” he grinned. “Where’s your car?”
She motioned toward her little Ford Focus and dug in her pocket with trembling
hands for her keys. The instant his fingers closed around hers she felt it. That selfsame jolt of energy. Their eyes locked, his filled with pure lust. Oh shit. She wanted to look away, but she couldn’t. An explosion of heat rippled through her body. Too much. The world tipped on its axis, just before everything went black.

Author Interview - Teresa D'Amario
Today I have the honor of bringing to you author Teresa D’Amario and her “friend,” Ryland Keegan, alpha male of a powerful wolven pack. Ryland recently discovered his True Mate, Nora, and together they turned a group of savage rouges to a functioning pack. (You can read about Ryland and Nora in the book Dark Succession.) We’ll talk more with Ryland later...
Teresa was born in Atlanta, the daughter of an Army Soldier during the early stages of the Viet Nam war, and she spent her childhood traveling from state to state, finally ending up overseas in Germany where she graduated high school six months early.
Her writing career however began as a young Airman in the Air Force, writing monthly articles for the weekly base paper. The articles ranged from climatological data to full center fold articles on the destructive forces of hurricanes.
But her early writing wasn’t limited only to the technological side. She’s written multiple dog training and behavior articles for canine websites such as Sonora Canine Freestyle, and also the Ask Blackjack column, a fun training column in the voice of her labrador retriever, then a young pup.
She’s married to a wonderful man named Doug, who is also retired Air Force, and they just celebrated their 20th wedding anniversary. They currently live in North Carolina with their two dogs.
Please help me welcome Teresa to That’s What I’m Talking About.
Twimom: Teresa, welcome and thank you for stopping by.
Teresa: Thanks for having me Jen! I love your blog and it’s always a pleasure to drop in!
Twimom: I am a big fan of your books--both the Maxey Wizard and True Mates Series. Although they are two different series, they share similar traits and possibly occur in the same “universe.” Can you tell my readers a bit about your series?
Teresa: Oh, thank you so much. And yes, they are similar in some ways, but the primary difference is the setting. The True Mates series is all about the pack – there’s very few outside influences, so you have a lot of the pack dynamics. The Maxey wizards are usually lone shifters, who find their mates, and are preyed upon by the GSA (Short for Government control of Supernatural Activities). So while family is a big part of both, how those families interact are very different. Both are filled with hot, sensual connections, along with some serious danger. I don’t think I could pick a “Favorite” of the 2 series if I tried. :D
Twimom: One of the things I love about your stories is the “True Mate” concept - that each character has a destined “soul mate” if you will. Do you believe in the concept of soul mates - one true love?
Teresa: Yes, I do. I knew the instant I laid eyes on my husband that he was the one for me. I think that’s why I lean toward the Soul Mate concept in my books. Plus, I like writing about that instant connection, where the moment you make eye contact (or as in the case of the shifters, catch the other’s scent) you know something special has happened.
Twimom: *shivers* I SO love that! I understand you have brought along alpha wolven, Ryland, with you today... Do you mind if I ask him a few questions? Can you give my readers a little introduction?
Teresa: I certainly did. Ryland is the head of his own pack of rogue wolven, each kicked out of their perspective packs with a death sentence over their heads, so they tend to be a bit on the rough side. They actually are in a special underground compound built by the previous pack leader. It comes with its own issues, as I’m sure you can imagine.
Twimom: Ryland, welcome to That’s What I’m Talking About. How are you? How’s the pack?
Ryland: *snarls*. If I have to deal with one more broken water pipe, someone is going to pay.
Teresa: Don’t mind Ryland. He’s not so good with the little details of his compound. Ryland, I think she wanted to know about the pack, not the compound itself.
Ryland: Great. Just great. They’ve even started making the place look like a home these days. We no longer look like a mental institution. Though I admit, sometimes I wonder if we are not.
Twimom: Yes, I hear that your mate, Nora, has helped make your compound more like a home. Can you tell me a bit about some of the other shifters that live among us?
Ryland: Why would you want to know about them? They all smell bad.
Teresa: *Glares are Ryland*.
Ryland: All right already! Fine. *grumbles and folds his arms.* Well of course, we all know there are the hyenas. Nasty creatures.
Teresa: *Clears her throat*.
Ryland: I guess that’s not the ones you are looking for. *sighs*. There’s a lot of cats around. Lots of cats. They tend to run in small groups, but now and then they form prides. I guess inside they really want to be like the wolven. Take the Leopard pride. Unlike the wolven, their line of succession goes down the family lines, even if it’s a female. I don’t get that. But I hear the next heir in line is missing. Kel, his name is. But his brother is hot on his trail in search of him. So if you see Dmitri running around, get out of his way. I hear he’s rather irritable at being the second son having to find the heir. He wants his own pride. Some think maybe he had something to do with his brother’s disappearance. But not me. It’s not in him. I met him a few years back. Upright dude, if you ask me. Testy, but fair. Last I heard, he and his mom got a key in the mail. A silver key! What shifter gives his mom Silver?
Twimom: WOW! Sounds exciting! Readers, if you would like to read more about Dmitri and his adventure, be sure to read Teresa’s upcoming release, Leopard’s Key, (Freya’s Bower, February 2011) Ryland, I know that you had a rough start with your Mate, Nora’s family. Have you smoothed things over? Do you have contact with Nora’s family pack? (you can read about her home pack in Teresa’s book She Wolf.)
Ryland: Yes I have. I’ve even had a bit of time to get to know Nora’s father, Sean. Now there’s a man with issues. I mean, what pack leader steps down as Alpha, handing it over to his brother? I hear his wife left him, and has disappeared. Nora tells me his youngest daughter (her sister), hates him. *shakes his head*. Last I heard he headed out to the woods to be alone. It’s not good for a wolf to be alone. Bad business. Can’t find family alone in the woods.
Twimom: That sounds rough. I wish you and Nora the best. I look forward to reading more about Sean and Nora’s family soon. Ryland, thank you so much for stopping by today.
Ryland: *nods*. I’m sure if Sean gets his head together, there will be a lot more happening.
Twimom: Teresa, do you mind if I ask you a few more questions? What is your favorite book that you have read so far in 2010? What are your favorite genres for reading?
Teresa: My favorite book so far this year is Sin Undone, by Larissa Ione. I actually dreamed about that book for days after I read it. As for my favorite genre, I prefer paranormal romance, or even romantic suspense. I love a good mystery in a book, and paranormal gives me a lot of that.
Twimom: Oh Sin Undone is a fabulous book!! Anything else you would like to share with my readers?
Teresa: Yes! You all must stop by my blog the month of October! Starting Monday I’ll be celebrating Halloween with the TriFecta Scare-A-Thon, and I’ll be giving away a minimum of THREE books per week. Most of which are autographed! Sunday Snippets #16
From Dark Succession by Teresa D’Amario.
Meeting his mate hadn’t exactly been on today’s agenda. He wasn’t sure how to proceed. Just like their wolf cousins, shewolves chose their mates, despite the rare paring of True Mates. And like the wolves, they usually chose the strongest in a pack. But it wasn’t always the case. Sometimes, they chose entirely by their heart. That’s what scared him. Ryland didn’t know how to court a female. They’d always come running to him. And since none of those females had managed to touch it, he was sure he didn’t have a heart.
To make matters worse, females didn’t recognize the True Mate bond in the beginning. Not like the males did. The females tended to assume other more mundane events were taking place, like their bodies taking over and going into heat.
Telling her they were True Mates would resolve everything. She’d understand and know she had no choice. Or would she?
He ground his teeth.
That would be the easy way out. As appealing as that seemed, he wanted her to accept him for himself, not because some deep-seated instinct demanded it. He inhaled and strode to the dresser. She would need something to sleep in. He grabbed a T-shirt.
His.
Not Joshua’s.
He sniffed it. Clean.
Ryland lifted his shirt and rubbed the soft cotton cloth over his chest and stomach as he strode into his bathroom. The fabric swept across his heated flesh, and he closed his eyes. Would her hands feel this delicate?
He grimaced. Now wasn’t the time to let his own desires play with his head. Fisting the cotton t-shirt, he dug through a drawer until he found a new toothbrush, and a few other odds and ends.
Returning to Joshua’s room, he found Nora sniffing near the closet door, her nose wrinkled in distaste. God, he hoped his brother hadn’t left anything incriminating in there. It was bad enough he’d not cleaned the room out already, but now his mate was nosing around inside.
“Here, something to sleep in.” He handed her the shirt and toiletries and waited.

Dark Succession - Review
Dark Succession
Author: Teresa D’Amario
Release Date: April 20, 2010 ebook format
Publisher: Freya’s Bower
True Mate Series Book #2
True Mate Series Book #2
ISBN: 978-1-936222-20-9
Genre: Paranormal Romance / Shifter
From the author’s website:
Nora Hunt is the daughter of former pack leader Sean Hunt and niece to Kieran Hunt. Emotionally and physically scarred after being held captive for weeks, she's finally ready to move on with her life. But when she meets Ryland, she discovers not only a world of darkness and pain, but discovers Ryland may not be any better than those who held her captive all those weeks.
When Ryland Keegan steps in as Alpha of his dead brother's pack, he inherits a pack of savage rogue wolven, as well as a legacy of violence, lies and five women held captive within the pack's confines.
But when Ryland's pack members start dying one at a time, he must decide if Nora is the catalyst or the killer. Can he trust his True Mate? Or will he be relegated to a life of leading the dregs of Wolven society?
What I’m talking about:
Dark Succession is an excellent mixture of action and romance, which alone made for a wonderful read. However, I was glued to the pages of this book because of the excellent story telling and an gripping “whodunit” plot line. Ryland’s pack members are being killed off and he has no idea who is doing it or why it is happening. In addition, someone keeps breaking into Ryland’s den, and he finds a mysterious coded diary that his dead brother left behind. Ryland doesn’t know who can help him, and after he has been lied to and hurt by his own family so often, he cannot even trust that his True Mate, Nora, is innocent. We are introduced to a wonderful cast of characters and I found myself constantly looking for a hint or clue that would help me solve the mysteries. I could not put this book down.
On top the great whodunit story, we have Nora: our heroine. Nora is a shewolf and daughter of her pack’s former leader. She is strong, but was destroyed by her own capture and torture and is no longer the confident shewolf she once was. (We read about her captivity in the first book, She Wolf.)
What I love about Nora is that we watch her grow from the weak shell of her former self to the strong alpha-bitch she was born to be. For wolven to show fear is signing a death warrant. And Nora does that early on in the book when a not very nice wolven grabbed her wrists, forcing Nora back into her memories of her capture. We watch her learn to overcome the past, and with the patience and love of her Mate, she gains back her confidence.
On the flip side of Nora’s story is Ryland’s journey from lonely leader to powerful alpha with a heart. Early on he is drawn to Nora physically because of the True Mate bond. But, he is disgusted by Nora’s fear, yet knows he must accept it since she is his destined Mate. He gives her time to grow and is surprised at how deeply he learns to care for her. The author provides great character development as Ryland goes from desires fueled solely by the bond nature put in place - to realizing his own faults as he watches his mate grow.
The story is well written and a joy to read. The end of the book started to drag some, but mostly because I wanted to get some answers and was an impatient reader. I was a bit disappointed that I couldn’t figure out exactly who was behind all of the shannigans, but it was still a great mystery. One thing that did bother me was Nora’s constant self-berating of her body. Even after she is able to “see” herself through her lover’s eyes and heart, she still puts herself down. She is stronger than that, and it annoyed me. But in the end, the story is a good one and I highly recommend.
