Celebrating Smexy Style
I love to celebrate - and one of my favorite things to do when a happy occasion arises, is to go out to dinner. Hello cocktails! Since I was young, I have grown accustomed to the way my father dines out. Get to the restaurant at least 30 minutes before your reservation so you have time to order a pre-dinner cocktail at the bar. Once seated, no one is allowed to open their menus until you have ordered another cocktail and it is sitting in front of you. Then a round of appetizers and a full perusal of the wine list must be done. As you can see, celebrations with my family last many, many hours. We always toast, and we always have wonderful conversation and many laughs. It really doesn’t get any better. Sometimes we are celebrating important milestones, but many times we are just celebrating to celebrate.
Now being me aka “smexy”, I love to daydream about how I would celebrate with my fictional boyfriends. Which boyfriend would be best for each part of the evening? Oh the choices I have!
Cocktail Hour - This honor goes to Bones (Jeaniene Frost). Bones is a very sexy, british vampire and I would love to share a martini with him. He would make me laugh and I bet he would let me suck the olives off of his toothpick.
Appetizer - The appetizer is quick, therefore, Ethan (Chloe Neill) would be great for a quick bite (he can bite me anywhere he wants). He is intense, serious, and I bet he loves crab puffs.
Salad course - Oh the salad - the raw, crunchy course - who else could eat my croutons than Terrible (Stacia Kane). Terrible seems like he might need a few vegetables and vitamins in his diet. I would even wipe the salad dressing out of his mutton chops.
Main Course - I’ve thought long and hard about whom I would spend the most time with at dinner. Someone good at conversation and chews with his mouth closed. I would love to eat dinner with Catullus Graves (Zoe Archer). Catullus is all gentlemen, and sexy as hell. He loves freckles and I would let him count my freckles all night.
Dessert - There is only one man I can think of that I would share dessert with - Mark St. Crow (Lilli Feisty). And for those that know of Mark St. Crow - we all know what dessert I would order - strawberry shortcake. (Mark does verra naughty deeds with strawberries).
Many, many congratulations to Jen for a wonderful first year of blogging. She is such a joy to talk with and I love her insightful reviews. Congrats Jen and thank you so much for asking me to be part of it.

Celebrating... Meljean Brook
Today I want to tell you about another one of my favorite authors: Meljean Brook. I don’t even know where to start other than to say Meljean ROCKS and you really need to read her stuff! Her Guardian Series includes one of my ALL TIME favorite books: Demon Moon. The main couple, Savi and Colin, make my heart melt. The book is that perfect mixture of romance, emotional upheaval, action, adventure... And the great thing is - every book in the Guardian series is just as wonderful.
But wait... that’s not all! Meljean’s new steampunk-romance series is amazing. The first full-length novel, The Iron Duke, is also one of my ALL TIME favorite books. If you have not read this book - you really must add it to your list NOW. Click HERE for my full review of The Iron Duke.
I could go on and on about how much I *heart* Meljean’s writing. But I wanted to let you know what a cool chick she is as well. Who else do you turn to when you want to discuss Wonder Woman or Nickelodeon's The Last Airbender (the REAL Avatar)? She is one of those geeky-chic gals, and I totally crush on her! And have you seen her book-pr0n post?! Her sense of humor is outstanding.
Meljean has been a big part of my first year blogging. She always answers my questions and spreads the word on my reviews. Her support has picked me up when I’ve felt a bit blue about blogging. She takes the time to chat on twitter and has been uber-generous by writing a guest-post, doing an author interview, and giving me great stuff to giveaway, all during my first year! I look forward to stalking finally meeting her this August in Philadelphia at the Authors After Dark convention.
To help me celebrate my one year BLOGIVERSARY and my upcoming 40th birthday, Meljean has generously donated a signed SET of ALL SIX of her Guardian Series full-length books!!! Thank you, Meljean!! (rules for giveaway are below)

Celebrating... with Mama Kitty

Details and entry are HERE.
But enough from me... Take it away, Mama K!!
Jen and I met a little over a year ago, right around the time I was suffering from the worst hangover in the entire world after New Year’s Eve out with my mother-in-law. I’ve since learned not to party with the MIL, but have grabbed onto Jen with both hands and held on because she’s such a wonderful person. I’m blessed to have such a smart, funny, and awesome person in my life and I want to wish her a very happy 40th birthday and 1st blogiversary!
When Jen emailed asking how I celebrate, I thought the answer would be relatively simple. But it’s not. Why? Well, it depends on what we’re celebrating. If it’s Monkey-related, we either go to Chuck E. Cheese’s and load up on the aspirin, or we head out to the pool and set up the barbecue pit. If it’s PK-related, we’ll head to the racetrack and grab a beer, or stay at home, set up the speakers he uses to play gigs, and buy out the local Spec’s. But if I’m the one celebrating... I prefer a bottle of wine, a hot tub, and some Michael Bublé playing in the background. Oh crap, that’s not for celebrations. That’s my idea of a romantic night in. *blushes* Sorry about that.
No, these days, I’m more about staying in than going out. I like to have a few friends over to my house, order a pizza, and just chill out for the evening. On the rare occasion I do go out, it’s to a club with some great music so I can shake my bootay with my best girlfriends (of course, I can’t remember the last time I actually did that...)
Now, if I were going to throw a celebration where money was no object? I’d fly my girls out to Barbados and hit up Harbour Lights, where I spent my 25th birthday while I was deployed. We’d dance until our legs gave out, have a few drinks, and oogle all the hotties on the beach.
Or I’d just fly all my girls to Houston so we could hang out at my place, watching Gerard Butler movies and drinking SmutClubs until we turned into giggling 12 year olds.
Happy birthday & blogiversary, sweets! I raise my glass to you and send you lots of love!

Celebrating... Larissa Ione
Welcome to Week #3 of my Month of Celebrating!
Today I want to tell you about another one of my favorite authors: Larissa Ione. Larissa is the author of one of the hottest paranormal books series: The Demonica Series. Demonica follows the adventures and romances of sexy demon brothers who run a hospital for paranormal creatures. Fantastically original!
She is also co-author (under the pen-name Sydney Croft) of hands-down one of my favorite series: Agency for Covert Rare Operatives aka ACRO Series. This series is erotica, paranormal, suspense and emotionally-satisfying romance all rolled into one fantastic ride. I liken it to “X-men for Adults.”
One of the great things I adore about Larissa, is that she always makes time for her readers. She is easily accessible via twitter and email. She and I have discussed books, sports, cold weather and fruit flies. Gotta love a diverse author!
Larissa has been a big part of my first year blogging. She always answers my questions and spreads the word on my reviews. She stops by my blog and leaves me comments (which is a total *squee* for me). Not only is she one of my favorite authors, but she is an amazing lady. I look forward to stalking finally meeting her this August in Philadelphia at the Authors After Dark convention.
To help me celebrate my one year BLOGIVERSARY and my upcoming 40th birthday, Larissa has generously donated a signed copy of one of her Demonica Series books (winner’s choice) plus assorted swag. Hey Jen! Thank you for inviting me to be a guest on your blog, and happy BLOGIVERSARY! It's a huge achievement and you should be very proud :) I've had my blog up & running since January '06, so I am familiar with all the work and time and love that goes into it, and to manage all that with work and a family besides is really quite impressive. When do you find time to read????
Since today we are celebrating a happy event, I am going to share some of my ideas on how I like to honor a specific occasion. I can't say that there's any one answer, because I get bored and like to switch things up from time to time. So it really depends on a few things, such as the type of event and how I feel about it. I am a big believer in customizing celebrations based on those details (although believing and doing are two different things LOL).
For example, I love celebrating my birthday, regardless of what age. I deal with the public, so when I turned 30, I had all the hoopla at work with the sash and the tiara and the black decorations, and I had an absolute blast sharing my day with everyone. The presents are nice, yes, but the attention is actually much more fun LOL. I would (do) shamelessly tell everyone when my birthday was coming up. And I have no problem making it a month-long celebration. Now when it comes to other people's birthdays, it really depends on that particular person. Some of my friends are like me and love to make a big deal, while others prefer low-key, smaller celebrations. I'm totally good with pulling that off, and enjoy doing for them something meaningful and in a way they will enjoy it.
When it comes to a favorite book or a new book release, obviously that one is easy. I like to give away a copy of that particular book, although if it's part of a series, I tend to give away however many books there are in the series. So if book 3 is coming out, I will also include the first 2 in the series. My reasoning for this is because I am an anal reader and hate starting a series in the middle, so I would hate to subject another reader to the possibility of missing out on previous books. That's just me.
I also am a big believer in the "pay it foward" concept, so every once in awhile, I would have a contest for a prize "just because". I think it's fun to try to come up with different ideas - giftcard to favorite restaurant, donation to a favorite charity, things like that. It makes it unique and fun and keeps me on my toes trying to be creative. I haven't been blogging much lately the last few months, but thinking about these ideas again makes me want to give it another go. It's good to recharge the batteries and perhaps a celebration is in order.
So really, my answer about celebrating is to make it special, and fitting to the occasion and/or the individual. Pay attention to details and most of all, have fun with it. Celebrations are joyous occasions, and should be, well, enjoyed. They should be creative and engaging. And if all else fails, throwing in a hottie never hurt anyone ;)
Have a wonderful BLOGIVERSARY, Jen! And here's to many more :)
Hugs,
Monday, February 7, 2011
Celebrating... Nalini Singh
Today I want to tell you about another one of my favorite authors: Nalini Singh. Ms. Singh is the author of my favorite paranormal books series: The Psy-Changeling Series. This amazing series is set in an alternate world made up of 3 races: Psy: cerebral and emotionally void people that hold most political and financial offices; Changeling: shifters of many different species, in-tune with nature, emotionally fierce and loyal; and humans: the supporting race in the middle. Ms. Singh writes some of the most passionate and emotionally satisfying stories I have ever read. And her alpha males... SO HOT!! Her other series, The Guild Hunters, is another great series - action packed and has the BEST hunk of an archangel hero! *swoon*
One of the great things I adore about Nalini, is that she always makes time for her readers. Whenever I have a question about her books, she answers me back right away. Even when I ask questions about characters (*eh hem* HAWKE) I’m not supposed to ask, she laughs and politely tells me to keep reading!
Nalini has been a big part of my first year blogging. She always spreads the word about my reviews of her books and contests. When I was lucky enough to receive an advanced copy of her most current Psy-Changeling book, Play of Passion, she put a snippet of my review on her blog. That lead to the single most visits to my blog in one day.
To help me celebrate my one year BLOGIVERSARY and my upcoming 40th birthday, Nalini has generously donated a signed copy of her latest release: Play of Passion (my review HERE). Thank you, Nalini!! (rules for giveaway are below)

But enough from me... Take it away, Bells!!
Let's turn the music up y'all!
I'm so excited that my buddy Twimom is celebrating a year on her blog!
When she asked me to do a guest post for this joyous occasion, I had a hard time figuring out what I wanted to do. Then it came to me one night at 1:30 in the morning. Why not just talk about something simple: our friendship!
I was so happy when my Hot Momma (my nickname for Twimom) decided that she was going to do a blog! I had just started mine about a month and a half before she did and was very green myself. She took the plunge...wait...we need a pic for this:
...ah Joe all wet! You know I couldn't celebrate with my girl without some Joe! Where was I? Oh yeah...she signed up for a blogger account and started asking me lots of questions regarding posts. Slowly but surely we both learned how to do many things for our blogs by working together. I helped her learn how to add a link like this: MORE HOT PICS OF JOE HERE!!
She helped me switch from a 2 column blog to a 3 column blog. We worked together and because of that we got to know each other a little better.
We began to say that we were twins because we liked so many of the same things. Here are some examples:
* We both love Joe Manganiello! My twin was the first one to get obsessed over Joe with me. She even took all of our pics and put them into the slideshow that you see on the left sidebar. I think this calls for another pic. You can never have too much Joe *snicker*:
* She's a perv like me and we are proud of it! She always gets the hidden message in most of my tweets and I tweet things on purpose just to see if she'll figure it out. She gets it every time (That's what she said!).
* We both have a fondness for the 80's. We both grew up in that era and remember lots of great things such as the music, movies, and happenings of the 80's. Whenever I discuss the 80's on Twitter, she always responds.

OMG I totally had cassettes that looked like this!
I snapped a couple of them in half because the damn
tape would always come out. Didn't you just hate that?!
* We both love the awesome Gena Showalter! *chants* Gena, Gena, Gena!! We are always excited when she releases a new book and can't wait to discuss it with each other. We even collaborated on a "We Love Gena" week long celebration to show our love for all things Gena:
* We both love New England. I was born and raised in Massachusetts but live in Maryland now and she currently lives in New Hampshire. We both love our New England sports teams and sometimes we only have each other to celebrate with. Sad, but at least we have each other:

Celebrating... Lara Adrian
Welcome to Week #1 of my Month of Celebrating.
Today I want to tell you about one of my favorite authors: Lara Adrian. She was one of the first paranormal romance authors I discovered. Her Midnight Breed Series books are on my “auto-purchase” list. The mythology--vampires (Breeds) are descended from a vicious alien race that landed on earth years and years ago--is so unique and intriguing. What I love about her stories is that the hot romance and overall story arc are coupled with exciting action and adventure.
After I became active on Twitter, Lara was one of the first persons I followed, and the first author to follow me back. *Squee* On different occasions, we tweeted back and forth and shared stories about books and living in New Hampshire, where we both have resided the past 10 years. I eventually had the opportunity to meet Lara in person (for more on this event see my post HERE). She was so thoughtful and kind to this fangirl.
Lara has been a big part of my first year blogging. She always answered my questions and helped spread the word on my reviews of her books and other fun things I did this first year. She was my first author interview. She is not only one of my favorite authors, but she is an amazing lady.
To help me celebrate my one year BLOGIVERSARY and my upcoming 40th birthday, Lara has generously donated a signed copy of her latest release: Taken By Midnight (my review HERE). Thank you, Lara!! The rules for giveaway are listed below.

A Month of CELEBRATING!!
Who wants to help me do a little celebrating?
Let me explain. TODAY, January 28, 2011, my blog, That’s What I’m Talking About, is one year old - it’s my BLOGIVERSARY! But wait... there’s more. In one short month on February 27, 2011, I will be celebrating my 40th birthday. YIKES! Yes... I will be the big 4-0! But no hiding for me - I want to celebrate!!
In the past year, my blog has blossomed and I have enjoyed every moment. I have had the opportunity to read over 80 books and stories, interview 17 authors, and give away several books and other fun stuff. My blog has grown to over 380 followers. Plus my blog has a review team now, with the addition of B. I am very thankful that I have the opportunity to share my love of reading with so many people. I want to let you know that YOU have made a difference during this first year of blogging. Each one of you that has stopped by and read a review, made a comment, followed my blog, tweeted about a post... all of you have supported me and my blog, and for that I am extremely thankful!
In order to celebrate both my one year blogiversary and my 40th birthday, I am planning a big ol’ blogging party! Today is the KICKOFF event - my 1 year blogiversary. During the month leading up to my birthday, I plan to feature guest posts from fellow bloggers that have made a difference to me during the past year. In addition, some of my FAVORITE AUTHORS have generously donated some wonderful prizes for weekly giveaways.
Week 1: Jan 31 - Feb 4
Lara Adrian Giveaway - Signed Copy of TAKEN BY MIDNIGHT
Week 2: Feb 7 - Feb 11
Nalini Singh Giveaway - Signed Copy of PLAY OF PASSION
Week 3: Feb 14 - Feb 18
Larissa Giveaway - Signed Copy of DEMONICA book (winner’s choice) PLUS assorted swag
Week 4: Feb 21 - 25
Meljean Giveaway - Signed Copy of ALL SIX GUARDIAN SERIES full-length books
BUT WAIT that’s not all... Since I will be turning 40 this year, I wanted to do something extra special for my readers. SO I will be giving away a $40 Gift Card to an online bookstore (Amazon, Barnes & Nobel, Borders or Book Depository) to one lucky person. That contest STARTS TODAY, January 28, 2011 and runs until 11:00 PM EST on Saturday February 26, 2011.
Rules for $40 GC contest: You MUST fill out the entry form HERE. One entry per person. You do not have to be a google friends connect follower of my blog, but if you are, you get one extra entry (see form for details). Contest is open internationally. Winner will be selected using random.org. I will announce the winner here on my blog on my birthday - February 27, 2011.
I am really excited about my Month of Celebrating, and I’m so thankful to all of you that have helped make this possible!
Thank you and happy reading!
